TAG – Fine Art

Our machines make digitising art an absolute doddle.

It is no surprise then that we get quite a lot of art coming through our doors.

TAG fine arts launched in 2006. They are based in the same building as us in Islington. They have a assortment of fantastic artist using various different mediums. From sculpture to huge prints. All of this need digitising which has previously been a huge problem for them.

However, over the last couple of years that we’ve been based in the BDC we have developed a great relationship with them and now every time they get a new piece in, they wander up the corridor and pop-in.

The above is a piece by Loraine Rutt who has been making maps from clay for over 25 years. It is a piece called ‘Segment: Land and Sea’ and is made up of 24 Porcelain globe segments.

Having us so near is immensely useful for them. But the main benefit from our studio is the machines. It simplifies and speeds up the entire process for them. Making it easier and more efficient than ever before.

Oh… my! Kidswear

Oh… my! Kidswear is a new fashion label created by Johnathon Swead and Anna Davies. The idea was to create a ‘quintessentially British brand with an eccentric twist.’ They combine simple lines with fabulous, eye-catching design details. Those striking designs on high-quality fabric make their clothing unique.

Bright colours and bold patterns. To capture this in their photography and infuse life into their product requires intense attention to detail and excellent lighting. With our machines these challenges are simplified a great deal making the shooting process smoother, more efficient and more effective.

We absolutely love this pairing of the simplicity of the cut with the complexity of design and print that makes these stand out.

William Yeoward

William Yeoward is considered one of the design scene’s leading creative forces, famed for creating elegance and comfort at home. Designer of truly beautiful products including furniture, crystal, lighting and many other accessories. We love his gorgeous upholstery and curtain fabrics and soft furnishings.

They sent in five carpets the biggest of which was over two metres wide and 3 metres long. Such a vast product presents a rather obvious problem. As we helped carry the rugs in from the van we worried. These were the biggest things we had ever shot.

In the end we were worrying over nothing. Admittedly heavy, awkward but we all piled in to help. And with two people to lift and style then hold in place on our flatbed table and another to shoot it was remarkably simple.

For these we took four shots, and in post-production comped the final image together, giving the full image. For items lie this our horizontal machine is perfect and it is a relatively simple and easy process to post-produce these into one cohesive image ready for use online.

St Piece

Intricate patterns aligned with intense, even opulent, colours set St Piece apart.

Their goal is to create ‘beautiful painting on luxury canvases of silk and cashmere’. And we might suggest they succeed.

Feisc

Set up in 2014 by Dr Fei Wan Lee, who has over fifteen years experience in toxicology, focusing on skin research and botanical properties. Feisc draws inspiration from the very plants themselves with deep understanding of the plants chemistry, fragrance, composition and their protective and regenerative properties.

Phyto-cosmetology is the concept at the very centre of Feisc’s creations. And by harnessing potent botanical powers, and combining extracts to compliment one another allowing for optimal effectiveness, they have developed a wide range of products that work on every skin type.

Their products give you softer, smoother, more radiant and beautiful skin from head to toe. And they smell fantastic!

They have previously struggled with their product photography. A lot of thought has gone into their packaging, to reflect the research and though that has gone into the actual product and getting that to show in the photography is a challenge.

One major problem they faced with their product is reflective logo. One solution is to darken the whole image underexposing the product, but that doesn’t look good. The solution is careful set lighting and polishing the imagery in post-production afterwards, cleaning up reflection and sharpening edges.

Oxford Shirts

Oxford Shirts started over 30 years ago and has gone from strength to strength over the years, gradually evolving from knitwear into having full collections of Men’s, Ladie’s, and Children’s wear. Based in the picturesque market town of Burford in the Cotswolds their first shop has expanded over the years. They now have a space of 8 shop frontages, all sympathetically designed to incorporate the buildings heritage and character.

Their clothes are high quality designer fashion wear. They recently sent on a selection of men’s shirts for us to shoot. Their shirts come a variety of colours and designs, from the more ‘out-there’ designs to simple or bold block colours.

The brief for their shirt was detail and flat lay shots of the shirts requiring a careful and very precise uniformity to the imagery. This would regularly require a large amount of post-production, resizing, cropping, and using an overlay feature to perfectly replicate the imagery.

Our machines, with set lighting, and a handy overly feature allow us to style and shoot the shirts in precisely the same way on our flatbed Styleshoot machine quicky and efficiently every time, removing the need for extensive post-production. This uniformity allows for a neat display of the product both online and in print that shows clearly the difference in each shirts colour and print.

All our images go through a rigorous quality control process, which sometimes entails tweaking or even re-shooting of products to ensure the highest standards.

Miss D

Miss D boutique is a beautiful boutique store that sells fabulous, beautiful plus sized women’s clothing. These clothes have a focus on quality, and they are designed around people.

We love their range, from bold patterns to simplistic understated and elegant colours.

However, they had a problem, which was getting good photograph that shows the cut and style of the clothing on mannequin. With Plus-sized clothing still being a small (though growing) part of the fashion market, not every studio has a mannequin large enough and unless they want to spend a large amount of money purchasing one (then finding a place to store it and organising to get it to the studio for each shoot) their options were limited.

However, when they found out we had a plus-sized mannequin in our studio they were delighted.

We wheeled our mannequin into place by our vertical machine and set to work. The results… excellent.

The Braided Rug

The Braided rug company is based in Aberdovey in Wales. Small factories have been making braided rugs in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains for the last 100 years. They imitate the rag rugs made by the early settlers on the east coast of America, and are a true design classics.

But more than that, they are beautiful to look at, and tremendously practical as well. The rugs they sell are the real thing, and they have uncompromising quality standards.

The yarns are spun, dyed into a rainbow of colours, and then woven into braids. These braids are then sewn by artisans (who often sign their work). This process isn’t quick, but the results are incredible.

They sent in a selection of accessories, coasters and table runners. These beautiful products come in a plethora of fabulous colours and designs that we just loved. Shooting these traditionally can be tedious. The braids allow for a small space between the weave, which when removing the background from the imagery is immensely time consuming. However, with our Styleshoot machines this problem is nullified. They automatically identify and remove the background, creating a neat cut-out PNG ready for use online or in catalogue.

Pyrus Shoot their newest collection at Ushoot Studios

We love having Ash come in with their fantastic ranges, he is enthusiastic, friendly and an extremely accomplished user of the vertical machine. So it is always a pleasure. It was his second visit to our studio recently and as last time he cracked on with a smile.

Ash and Lorraine met whilst studying at London College of fashion and then joined forces to establish Pyrus in 2005.

12 years on and Pyrus is doing very well with a really lovely selection of womenswear. The aim of their brand is easy wear modern classics. Clothes that won’t drop out of fashion next season, rather remain impervious to the swiftly changing courses of fashion fads.

Their designs are lovingly thought through, inspired by trips to everywhere from India to local art fairs and markets. Stocked internationally, across UK, Spain, France and even Japan, they now have a loyal following, and it is easy to see why.

Based in East London, UShoot was a great find for their product photography needs. The ability to control the shoot suits such a bespoke and unique brand very well. We very much look forward to seeing Ash next season with their newest ranges!
